Meet Diana Sarlitto
I have an incredible passion for teaching, reading, writing, traveling, smiling, olympic lifting, singing, talking, debating, listening to music, painting, sewing, hiking, canoeing, mountain climbing and laughing. I love everything and anything, but most of all, I love working in education. I have discovered so much freedom in education for a unique creativity such as mine, a place where I am accepted for my innovative styles and pedagogies. I love my students and teachers so much and will go to great lengths to ensure their happiness and success.
I taught Jack Benny Middle School as a Title I Reading Teacher, co-teaching with diverse content teachers to incorprorate best reading strategies, assessed the school for reading levels and targeted small groups of students for intense reading interventions. After teaching in the middle school, I took a position as a Read 180 Teacher at the Waukegan High School for 9th grade students who were severly lacking grade level reading skills. I taught reading intervention courses for two years before embarking on a new adventure in 2009 for the Peace Corps.
In December of 2009, I found my new placement in a country of Albania with the Peace Corps Volunteer Organization. I began a new journey on March 15th, flying to Philadelphia and then to Vlora, Albania where I began my two year, three month service as a Teacher Trainer for the Directorate of Vlora. It was in this new position that I discovered my next passion as an Educational Coach and Leader.
The experience in Albania allowed my skills and techniques as a coach to growth and develop, while making sustainable impacts for a country in need of professional development. Learning how to become a flexible and talented coach, I also became fluent in the Albanian language, as well as, extremely well-versed in cultural exchange. The position enstilled a passion for global education and the desire to help teachers throughout the world.
Upon returning home from my Peace Corps service, I was employed by my former district where I was employed as a Teacher, Waukegan Public Schools. I became an External Response to Intervention Coach and it was in this position that I honed my talents as a coach. I targeted skills that I was deficient in and embarked on a journey to develop myself as the best coach that I can possibly be in order to best service the establishment that I work for.
My ambition, determination and passion has and will continue to change the world. Besides having a career in education that I adore and a passion that drives me every day, I am an amateur artist and creative writer. By being an educational leader, I can incorporate many of my creative skills and talents. I have also found a passion for mountain climbing, as my father and my brother introduced me into the lifestyle by climbin Mt. Rainier. We had an amazing summit on Mt. Rainier in Seattle, Washington in the summer of 2009, which also inspired my climb in 2014 of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. My list of mountains to climb grows as fast as my professional ambitions grow.
