In many countries around the world, becoming an active and respected member of the community is directly linked to your potential success in the workforce. Albania is a very close-knit community, where even in the largest cities, you will run into someone you know or you may be working in a school that employs many of your neighbors. Besides impacting your reputation and success in your career, the relationships you build with the community leave rippling impressions that may last forever. I always try to leave a place better than I found it and in many times, all it required was a smile and talking to them in their native language.

Preparing traditional Albanian dishes with a host mother.

Attending a performance of a local band.

I worked closely with the owner of the establishment and I was able to meet with the musicians after the performance.

A group of trick or treaters came to my house eager for American candy.
