JOB DESCRIPTION
Secondary Response to Intervention (RtI) External Coach
The Response to Intervention (RtI) External Coach is directly responsible to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Grades 6-12. They will establish and amend district initiatives, as well as, provide support and assist schools in the implementation of the multi-tiered service delivery model (RtI). The coach will also provide support to classroom teachers, school staff and administrators, mainly focusing on: implementation of effective instructional strategies, consistency and fidelity of instruction, modeling of explicit instructional practices, collaboration, coaching and improvement of overall student achievement.
Location: Grade 6-12 Schools
Responsibilities:
(1) Serve as building-level resource to administrators and staff in areas related to: Response to Intervention, problem solving practices and effective instructional practices;
(2) Provide training and support in the implementation of behavioral programs, including: Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) systems, CHAMPS and START on Time;
(3) Identify staff development needs;
(4) Provide training and support in the use of data for instructional/intervention planning, including the use of: classroom assessments, Office Discipline Referrals (ODR), Check in Check Out (CICO), Curriculum Based Measures (CBM), and Northwest Evaluation Association Measures of Academic Progress (NWEA-MAP);
(5) Train and provide technical support with data management, including progress monitoring, and the use of AIMSweb and SWIS;
(6) Provide teachers individualized, classroom-based support that includes modeling of best teaching practices and coaching on matters relating to instructional strategies, instructional delivery methodologies, differentiation and data driven instruction;
(7) Assist in planning instructional units, curriculum, and developing common formative assessments;
(8) Work with the administration to focus on goals for content areas, assessment procedures, teacher training, data collection, and required reports;
(9) Support school staff with building competency in providing appropriate interventions as part of the RtI process;
(10) Interpret data and assist with the placement of students to provide appropriate intervention and support services;
(11) Participate and facilitate in applicable building-level and district-wide training activities;
(12) Serve on appropriate building-level teams to assist in the future development of the school
(13) Maintain personal professional development on effective instructional strategies and RtI practices including; PBIS, problem-solving and the coaching process;
(14) Assist in the evolution of district-wide implementation of the RtI model and differentiated instruction, ensuring the inclusion of special education, related services, second language learners, and PBIS;
(15) Collaborate and network frequently with other district resources;
(16) Other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Grades 6-12.
Personal Attributes:
(1) Awareness of academic standards, content, curriculum development, and implementation;
(2) Familiarity with effective and varied teaching strategies, evidence-based practices, current research, and trends in education;
(3) Experience using and/or leading others in developing and using formative assessments in the improvement process;
(4) Adept with instructional and behavioral coaching practices;
(5) Skilled in presentation and facilitation to large groups, small groups and individuals;
(6) Understanding of research-based interventions and support services within an RtI model;
(7) Ability to effectively work with people and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration, and organization;
(8) Proficient in the use of technology;
(9) Experience of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate instructional interventions;
(10) Knowledge of PBIS and Safe and Civil Schools programs.
Qualifications:
(1) Elementary or Secondary Certification, LBS1 or Type 73 Certification; Master’s Degree in Education preferred;
(2) Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in RtI, quality instructional practices, problem solving, change process and coaching strategies;
(3) Knowledge base of Illinois’ School Improvement Initiatives, especially the Common Core and College Career Readiness Standards;
(4) Demonstrated expertise in PBIS implementation across three tiers
(5) Demonstrated mastery of data analysis including the ability to train and coach the use of AIMSweb, SWIS, and NWEA MAP;
(6) Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff and coaching staff
(7) Previous experience with 6-12 grade students
(8) Minimum of 3 years successful teaching or other school related experience.
Salary: Per teacher contract
Additional Information: Extended workday (8 hours) for which RtI Coaches receive $6,000 stipend.
