While "differentiation" is a popular term in education, it is only effective when the strategy fits the need. Assess the data, observe the environment and brainstorm with colleagues to obtain a wholistic idea of which strategy will truly make the "difference" in the efforts to differentiate. Differentiation can be very powerful and the strategies are only as powerful as the teachers who are impassioned by them. Below are two great strategies that are extremely flexible and able to make the difference in the learning environment.
I have implemented the Foldables strategy in my own classroom, as well as given professional development sessions to the entire Waukegan district. While the strategy may not have been new to some teachers, expanding their perceptions on how to use them was extremely beneficial for all.

Working with a novice teacher to gain management control of their classroom, an action plan was established and we devised a strategy to implement engaging roles for students who were struggling with their behavior. The teacher implemented the strategy and found incredible success with the students' behaviors.
